"In February 2020, the Civic Orchestra Fellows curated, produced, and performed a recital of contemporary chamber music. In the video below, you will hear “Cobalt Aviary | Still Pond” by Darian Thomas. The piece—for violin quartet—showcases the instrument’s ability to mimic sounds heard in nature. With only suggested pitches and motives from the composer, the performers are free to improvise patterns reflective of birdsong through different techniques, such as pizzicato and harmonics.
